Bonfires under a Himachal sky
A crackling bonfire in the crisp mountain night — the quintessential Windmill Inn evening and one of the most-loved things to do near Solan and Kasauli after dark.
Ask any guest who's stayed at Windmill Inn what they remember most, and at least half will say the bonfire. It's not complicated. It's just a well-built fire, in a safe spot on our lawn, under a sky that has more stars than any weekend getaway near Delhi or Chandigarh has a right to show you.
The mountain air at night gets cold fast. The fire makes that cold feel like a feature, not a problem. People sit a little closer. Conversations slow down. Kids go quiet. That's the whole pitch.
Among things to do near Solan at night, there isn't much that beats sitting by a fire in a forest on a mountaintop. The town nightlife in this part of Himachal is, honestly, limited — and that's kind of the point. You came up here to stop doing things, not to find more.
The bonfire fits that mood. It's low-effort, high-reward. A lot of homestays and resorts in the area charge double what we do for a bonfire that's noisier and more crowded. Ours is on your own terms — your group, your time, your pace.
Tell us any time during your stay — even at dinner on the same night — that you'd like a bonfire. We'll set it up in our designated bonfire spot on the lawn, well away from the rooms and the forest edge, and get it going 15 minutes before you come out. We keep extra firewood stocked so the fire can go as long as you want.
Café orders come to the bonfire if you want them — hot chai, coffee, snacks, dinner. A lot of our guests eat dinner by the fire. If you're the kind of person who likes a drink in the evening, the café can help with that too.
No gimmicks. No entertainment. Just a fire, the forest, the mountain air, and the people you came with. If you're searching for a homestay near Kasauli with bonfire or the right place for a quiet mountain evening, this is it.
